CORONA COMIC: RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMEDIA NARRATIVE TO REACH KIDS GLOBALLY
WELTHUNGERHILFE AND WASH UNITED gGmbH

Corona Comic is an innovative storytelling initiative designed to make critical COVID-19 information accessible to children globally. The project simplified complex health guidelines, addressing misinformation and fear during the pandemic. It was designed for global adaptability, ensuring children from different backgrounds could relate to and act on the messages.

Produced in 24 global languages, making COVID-19 information widely accessible
Provided positive, non-fear inducing messaging to help children understand and act on safety measures
Distributed across organisations and governments globally, ensuring large-scale reach
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to communicate critical COVID-19 safety measures to children in a way that was engaging, easy to understand, and accessible across different languages and regions. Traditional public health messages often failed to capture children’s attention, making it essential to create a format that was both informative and entertaining.

THE SOLUTION
During the pandemic, children were often left out of public health conversations, with little guidance tailored for them. Corona Comic filled this gap through storytelling—transforming complex COVID-19 safety measures into an engaging adventure. Featuring four children from different continents, the multilingual comic helped young readers navigate the crisis with clarity and confidence.
Given the urgency of the pandemic, the production of the Corona Communication prioritised speed, clarity, and adaptability. It was designed around key behavioural insights, and an agile design system that allowed for the seamless integration of new information, while a rigorous fact-checking process minimised misinformation.
