TAARON KI TOLI: DIGITAL APP FOR GENDER BASED CURRICULUM
BREAKTHROUGH

Taaron Ki Toli is a gender-sensitization program for adolescents aged 11-14 to challenge gender norms through storytelling, activities, and discussions. Using an interactive, play-based curriculum, it equipped young learners with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for equality, rights, and social change.

Gamified digital curriculum with 24 interactive activities across 4 content formats
Promoted awareness and critical thinking around gender roles and social norms in an intuitive, culturally relevant way
THE CHALLENGE
Deep-rooted gender norms and societal expectations limit adolescents’ understanding of equality and rights. Traditional education methods often fail to engage young learners in meaningful discussions about gender, agency, and social change. The challenge was to create an interactive, accessible, and scalable learning experience that could break these barriers and empower adolescents to challenge norms in their everyday lives.

THE SOLUTION
Gamify Breakthrough’s Taaron Ki Toli curriculum into an engaging, self-paced digital experience. The curriculum was adapted into interactive online modules designed for adolescents aged 11-14. The focus was on ensuring minimal facilitation, making the learning process accessible, engaging, and impactful, even in low-resource settings.
A simple, interactive, and informative user interface was designed to make learning engaging and intuitive. The curriculum was structured into four key categories: Khelo (Play), Karo (Act), Dekho (Watch), and Suno (Listen)—each offering a unique way to explore gender roles and social norms.
The user journey encouraged introspection, critical thinking, and action, allowing learners to challenge norms, recognise role models, and engage meaningfully. With 24 interactive activities, a gamified reward-based system, and a youth-friendly UI/UX, the app fostered curiosity, encouraged questions, and empowered users to understand their rights.
